The title itself reveals that much that we could basically make the work of the description easy.
If there weren’t so many things to say about this particular piece. First of all: this probably unique “project” of an absolute perfectionist in the most positive sense will hardly be found a second time on the market.
Such cars make their driver lonely on the road. Even today – a good 10 years after its debut – you will hardly come across cars on public roads that take about 8 seconds to sprint from a standing start to 200 km/h and have to brake voluntarily at 330 km/h…
Who buys a brand new Porsche 997 GT2 Clubsport? Wrong. Not the one who can afford it, but the one who is very lucky to be assigned one of the rare specimens. The financial willingness is often much more pronounced than the chance of getting it.
Let’s get back to the real reason for the purchase intention. The GT2 is at the end of the food chain in the Porsche program. Thanks to its clever, visionary policy for the future, Porsche AG has long since grown into an all-rounder with SUVs and sports sedans in its portfolio. The formerly exclusively sports car manufacturer has thus grown to become a global player and today serves around 20 times more customers per year than not so long ago. But sports cars can still be built in Zuffenhausen. And what kind of sports cars!
Can you imagine what it feels like to have around 700 hp in a ventilated Porsche that doesn’t have an ounce too much fat on its body, and in terms of driving dynamics has grown into a super sports car with the best components available, which even today – 10 years after it was launched from the factory assembly line – has no need to fear even the “freshest” opponents.
A thoroughly defined model athlete with an extra punch of performance that is sufficient for every conceivable situation in a car. Both on the public road, where only a fraction of the special features of this car can be explored anyway, and on the race track (where this vehicle basically belongs), in most cases the pilot is the weakest link in the chain.
His “hunting ground” and natural habitat, despite such comfortable facilities as air conditioning, navigation module and electric windows, is clearly the track, not the public road. Only there, AND ONLY WITH A PILOT WHO HAS EXTENSIVELY EXERCISED AND UNDERSTANDED IN THE TOPIC OF CAR DRIVING, will the driver be able to experience a world beyond all the usual experiences in a sporty automobile.
The car we presented was released into the world as a 997 GT2 Clubsport with a 6-speed manual gearbox, only to return to Porsche shortly afterwards, where they took care of its drive system to help the owner with his pronounced hunger for performance.
Several months and thousands of Euros later a GT2 completely converted to GT2 RS came out. The differences between these two cars are so profound that even from the original engine not much remains. Beginning with the special engine housing with additional oil holes for cooling the piston crown up to the independent intake manifold, all the necessary parts plus the working time of an experienced mechanic easily reach the 50000-€uro limit, but that’s not the end of it.
A special clutch from RUF for higher performance and above all torque, both turbochargers with special variable geometry, Unibal suspension joints, tyres, rims,…. The list is almost endless and makes it clear what effort the company Porsche AG puts into these vehicles and where in the end the money the customers have to pay for them is. When the whole package is then rounded off with special 100-cell catalytic converters, a high-output, high-end titanium exhaust system from MM, wheel bolts made of the same ultra-light material and passes through the experienced hands of Andreas Appenroth, who is considered one of the best addresses in Germany for the individual tuning of all components and the driver, the result of all these measures is a Porsche that hits the nerve of the sporty, ambitious Porsche driver at its core.
Even very critical natures will not notice anything more about this GT2. In addition to its extraordinarily well-maintained overall condition, it is above all the completely unspent technology that works as impressively solidly as a Swiss Army knife.
However, this is only as a prelude to a few hard facts that are of interest to anyone interested in such a car.
First hand, accident- and repainting-free, completely maintained Porsche checkbook, complete history from the date of purchase without any maintenance traffic jams, original Clubsport equipment ex works, conversion to GT2 RS drive by Porsche incl. all invoices and measurement data, crash track logs etc. Non-smoking and garage vehicle, exclusively summer and fair weather operation, including of course track operation, but only against your own watch, never in competition. These vehicles were built by Porsche for this purpose. They are completely unsuitable for holiday and walking tours. For this purpose, Porsche also produces much more suitable models, for example, when passengers want to go out to pick flowers. The GT’s of this house come directly from racing and that’s how they want to be understood and driven.
